Our featured topic will be from Rachael Brown from the Fens Biosphere. Rachael will be giving a presentation about the aims, people involved and progress of the proposed UNESCO Fens Biosphere.

She’ll ask to pick your brains…in order to apply for Biosphere status they (Fens Biosphere partnership) need to show how people value the Fens, what their concerns for the future are and if they think the Biosphere is a good idea for the area. Rachael hopes you will be happy to help out and give her your opinions. Don’t hold back!

The evening’s spotlight talk (20mins) will be from Fascinating fens. Karen creator of Fascinating fens will be giving a brief overview of how fascinating fens started, current projects and hopes for the future.

Fen Folk Fridays are a fantastic way to meet others who love all things about the fens. Great speakers each monthly meet up.

Do you love the fens? If so, join our monthly zoom “Fen Folks Fridays” to meet others who share your interest. Each meeting will include 1-2 speakers about topics relating to the fens. It will also include updates of forthcoming events in the fens.

Our September event will include a talk from Paul Burrows who is a Flood & Coastal Risk Manager for the River Great Ouse catchment at the Environment Agency. Paul will share how the uniqueness of the Fens and the importance of flood management infrastructure has captured his heart and is challenging his brain. He’ll provide an overview as to how the Environment Agency are working with other organisations to face the challenge of a changing climate in an area that is so very dependent upon the effective availability and management of water.

Karen from Fascinating fens will also give a brief overview during the meeting about the current fascinating fens projects, including opportunities for the community to get involved. Fascinating fens believes in engaging communities to promote and explore the fens through heritage, creativity, nature, wellbeing and accessibility.

Forthcoming events in the fens will be discussed including the Soham pumpkin fair.

The next Fen folks Fridays will be: October 23rd and November 20th.
