Join us for our free zoom Fen Folks Friday, 25th September 7.30pm. Thanks to Paul Burrows who will be speaking about flood management in the fens. Please book in advance. More info…

Fen Folk Fridays are a fantastic way to meet others who love all things about the fens. Great speakers each monthly meet up.

Do you love the fens? If so, join our monthly zoom “Fen Folks Fridays” to meet others who share your interest. Each meeting will include 1-2 speakers about topics relating to the fens. It will also include updates of forthcoming events in the fens.

Our September event will include a talk from Paul Burrows who is a Flood & Coastal Risk Manager for the River Great Ouse catchment at the Environment Agency. Paul will share how the uniqueness of the Fens and the importance of flood management infrastructure has captured his heart and is challenging his brain. He’ll provide an overview as to how the Environment Agency are working with other organisations to face the challenge of a changing climate in an area that is so very dependent upon the effective availability and management of water.

Karen from Fascinating fens will also give a brief overview during the meeting about the current fascinating fens projects, including opportunities for the community to get involved. Fascinating fens believes in engaging communities to promote and explore the fens through heritage, creativity, nature, wellbeing and accessibility.

Forthcoming events in the fens will be discussed including the Soham pumpkin fair.

The next Fen folks Fridays will be: October 23rd and November 20th.

Not one, but four #FascinatingFens announcements will be revealed in posts this coming week. But if you want a sneak preview, visit our website for more details or click this post. #CelebrateTheFens

Celebrate the fens day 2021: Following the great success of our first ever Celebrate the fens day this year. The next Celebrate the fens day has been confirmed for June 19th 2021 (there will be a weekend of celebrations from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th). Get in touch if you want to organise an event. Remember the events from this year by clicking here.

“The Fens” 2021 calendar: is about to be printed. A beautiful calendar portraying the fascinating fens, created using photos from our followers, thank you to everyone who was involved. We loved getting the community involved and we had over 60 entrants, which was therefore very hard to select only a few. Pre-order your calendar for £10 each (plus £2 p and p), alternatively they can soon be purchased from Denny Abbey Farmland museum. If you have a business/organisation, and would like to sell the calendars for fascinating fens, please also get in touch. Monies gained from the sale of calendars cover the costs of making them and any spare will help future/current fascinating fens community projects.

“Fen Folks Fridays”: Do you love all things related to the fens? We’re piloting 3 sessions of fen folks fridays. These will be evening sessions and will be once a month via zoom. The dates will be: friday 25th September, 23rd October, and 20th November. They will include two different speakers per evening on a range of fen topics including: heritage, creativity, nature and wellbeing. The speakers will be confirmed soon, but ones already confirmed include James Boyce author of “Imperial Mud” and Rachael Brown from the fensbiosphere. The sessions will be free to attend. If you are new to zoom or nervous about using it, I’d be happy to help you practice prior to the evening. Please get in touch if you would like to be a participant, a speaker or if you are a business and would like to sponsor one of the sessions (if you sponsor the session, your business will be mentioned during the session, on social media posts prior to the event, on the e-newsletter for that quarter and on the website). Information will be updated on our get involved page soon.

E-Newsletter: Fascinating fens is making a free quarterly e – newsletter. Get in touch if you would like to receive this or if you would like to write an article for this. It’s a great way to promote what you enjoy about the fens or what your organisation does. You don’t have to be an expert at writing articles and please don’t worry about grammar (as we can help check it), as long as the article is about the fens. Also, feel free to send us photos to add in it. If you are a fen organisation or business feel free to print off the newsletter for your visitors/guests/customers to see.

Volunteer with fascinating fens: if you enjoy seeing the types of community projects fascinating have/are involved in and you if you have a little spare time and love the fens, get in touch if you would like to help out.

Have you created something that reminds you of the fens in #Lego? See info below for info about the competition. @cambsacre @fensbiosphere #MuscovyAndEeli have made theirs, click the post to see it. #TheFens

Muscovy the duck and Eeli the eel could only find blue lego bricks, so there was only thing they could make as a tribute to their home near/in water…..
